Three Mean Coyotes
“No!” Lahlene yipped and the middle coyote nipped her roughly, and there was blood. Coyote came to his feet but the large coyote had him at the edge of the promontory. Coyote crouched to keep his balance, the large coyote bearing against him ... They looked at him and he saw their anger harden. “Push ‘im now, paw,” the middle one barked. Coyote charged the big dog, driving through his chest. The dog made a scramble to hold on but could not gain position. Coyote drove without letting up then pulled back in a scramble. The coyote clawed the ground with his front paws before going over. They heard a final yelp forced from him down below. The other two raced down the slope howling.
